What is the background of black babysitters?
From the late 1800s through the mid-1900s, becoming a domestic worker, such as a maid, cook, or nanny, was one of the few positions a black woman could have. Black nannies raised white children in the South and elsewhere, frequently forging deep relationships of love and gratitude.
