I am the light and the way
$150.00
Within realms layered between the mystique of history and the embrace of creativity, there emerges a new tableau revelation unveiled in whispers of pigment and canvas. This is “The Light and the Way,” a creation conjured from the depth of oil’s embrace, a canvas of life with dimensions at 23” x 30”. Its title, a promise of luminescence leading the way through corridors forgotten by time.
In this incandescent scene, two worlds unfurl—a dialogue transcending epochs amidst an ethereal chorus of spirits past and present. At the painting’s heart, a figure both commanding and temporal on horseback— Steven Lang an actor clad in the attire of military history astride the real Thomas Stonewall Jackson’s spiritual leader and companion.

Lang, on his equine companion, meets for cinematic or spiritual direction—opposed in posture and garb, cloaked in robes, gesturing with divine fervor that makes your imagination ask, who is this pointing a new way? Around them swirls the bustle of cinematic sorcery—boom microphones poised with spectral attention, cameras capturing echoes of existence. Here lies a juxtaposition—a dance between the age-old costumes and the modern tools of filmmaking—inviting the soul into the meta-realm, a glimpse behind the veils of art and history brought together in one harmonious narrative.
The inspiration calls from a place deeper than paint—a beckoning echo from the film worlds of the American South, where spirits of faith and history unite. The tale of Stonewall Jackson, as portrayed in “Gods and Generals,” reveals itself anew, an iteration of faith and mythology overlooking cultural canyon lines. Jackson, a man stirring conflict and compassion in equal measure, a teacher veiled in history’s shroud—his legacy twisting through the avenues of church and scripture. This inspired odyssey transformed attitudes, leading into the depths of Southern lands, into reenactments both of past and prejudice, into the truths and myths where history cloaks its lessons.
Unique to the creation, laced within the oils of labor, the visage of Christ emerges—a beacon against conventional representation, illuminated by the depth of complexion. Here, an artistry that ventures beyond tradition touches boundaries unseen—the dark skin of the Savior emerging as a quiet revolution upon the canvas.
Embark, wanderer, into “The Light and the Way,” where the familiar is unfurled in strange technicolor—a meeting ground where light converges with history’s silence, and man’s technology seeks to capture the guardians of time. Enveloped within this piece is not merely art, but an invitation—an echo of understanding and confrontation, of looking beyond the temporal veils into the tapestry of our shared narrative. Engage, listen, and see—not just with eyes, but with the soul, as it drums alongside history’s cowboy cadence, capturing a new light along its perpetual journey.
Giclee painting print on canvas, artwork print, size 23″ x 30″, Original painting is available
The making of the movie “Gods and Generals” was incident-free and well done. But artist Uncle Gregory took the liberty to paint Jesus Christ who appears on the set pointing in a direction as Stephen Lang sits on the top of his horse. But the movie camera does see the Savior of us all, “The Light.”.
