Despite the heavy casualties sustained there, the Battle of Chancellorsville is considered Gen. Robert E. Lee’s greatest military victory. It was the last battle for Confederate Lt. Gen. Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, and on Apr 30 – May 6, 1863, was mortally wounded by friendly fire.
The second life-after-death shooting was, on July 1, 2020, when Virginia workers in Richmond removed the Confederate General Stonewall Jackson statue from its pedestal on Monument Avenue. The statue was erected in 1919 to remember Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson Jackson, a former instructor at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) who founded the first black Sunday school to teach African Americans how to read the Bible and uphold Christian beliefs, which was against Virginia law.
