This is a montage, in acrylic paint on illustration board 50 years ago, it’s a little fragile.



One of my favorite singers was the late Billy holiday, but only because her life parallel mine and my mother said to me that Billy lived in our same building at 147 Street in Harlem’s New York community. She made a major record recording Named STRANGE FRUIT; “Southern trees bear a strange fruit Blood on the leaves and blood at the root Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze, Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees.

I experienced that strange fruit, but it wasn’t me swinging from the poplar tree, the loose around my neck was the drug heroin.
