This project was the third painting in the series, in which the replacement and rebuilt Cotton Club is nestled near the Hudson River on the west side of 125th Street in Harlem, New York,
under a traffic ramp overhead bridge. The whole location was taken over by Columbia University, but the cotton club refuses to give up its property to the college.
It’s almost the only business that survived the hostile takeover by Columbia University, and it’s often the scene of couples having intimate romantic conversations.
